Last month I had the pleasure of deejaying a private event held at Hudson Terrace in Manhattan, with the theme centered around James Bond. The event was thrown by Jacqueline Weppner of Merci New York, who specialize in event styling and planning. A write up and pictures from the party are featured on celebrity event designer Preston Bailey’s blog as well as Merci’s blog.

I like my transitions quick and usually with no hype. This starts off 16 bars at 128 BPM and transitions down to 100 BPM over the next 8 bars and then hits into the original track. I’ve been using this a lot.

I put together an end of summer mix last weekend with the theme being dance tracks that were either released this past summer or became popular this past summer (as in the track was released a while ago but didn’t catch on mainstream-wise until now, e.g., “Stereo Love”). The styles range from big room house to disco house to swing house to guido anthems to hipster anthems – basically a collection of the best tracks from summer 2010 that are some form of dance/house. No remixing or quick mixing, I pretty much let the songs breathe on this one as they were originally meant to be heard. 80 minutes long.

Another week, another show. Lots of new music and remixes including new stuff from Lil Jon ft 3OH!3, Rihanna, remixes of La Roux, Jason Derulo, a dope remix of Drake’s “Find Your Love” from the homie DJ Serafin (www.djserafin.com), and of course, the mixshow would not be complete without a little Michael Jackson on the day of his passing, one year ago. Also Brian Stylez, my partner in crime’s, last night on the show, always holding it down on the mic and a big part why the K104 night show is the Arbitron rated #1 night show in the area.

It’s been a full year since Michael’s untimely passing and it still sucks as much as it did that day. The one positive at the time was the MJ-mania resurgence that took place immediately following his death. I never got tired of hearing his songs on the radio (especially some of the less often played ones) and it was great to be able to rock extended MJ sets in the club and have people lose their minds to it like you were dropping the biggest hits of the moment. I wish that buzz could have lasted forever.
I’ll be playing tribute sets to start and close the night tonight at Butterfield 8 in Stamford. Stop in and party to some of the greatest music ever made.
Here’s an edit I made throwing the “ABC” acappella over the Justa Rock Roots Edit, plus some drums underneath.
